Search Engines vs. Directories

Both are very important but there is a very important difference between search engines and directories. Search engines use software robots or spiders to review web pages and compare them to a check list or algorithm they have and position the web page depending on how well the page matches their algorithm. To make sure the page has current information the spiders revisit the page often and with a new algorithm. If the page is updated to match the new algorithm than it maintains or improves it ranking. Many search engines, like MSN, AOL, etc, pull data from directories in addition to their own databases. Search engines include, but are not limited to: AltaVista (non-paid listings), HotBot, AOL Search, InfoSeek, DirectHit, IWON, Excite, Lycos, Fast/AllTheWeb, MSN (non-paid listings), GoTo (non-paid listings), WebCrawler, Yahoo Web Pages (non-paid listings). 

Directories, like Yahoo! Web Sites, use human reviewers to evaluate the entire web site, after which they write a listing including a title and description and that is how your site will be listed in their directory. They don't use spiders or algorithms, so once you have a listing with them it usually remains unchanged. 

Pay per Measurable Results

We can't control how many clicks you get for a top listnig. We can't control how many people "might" look at your top listing. The only thing we can control, to some extent, is whether or not you get a top listing in the search engines and directories. This is very easy to confirm. We send you a monthly report of the positions of all your keyword phrases on the search engines and directories you have chosen to be listed in. After viewing the report you could go to the search engines and type in the keyword phrase and verify the positions we report. We feel this is a fair and measurable strategy.

Website Optimization

Simply submitting a website to the search engines will not get top listings. However, dozens, if not hundreds of top listings can be acquired providing a very broad exposure through proper HTML optimization of a website.

Maintaining Your Top Listings

Because search engines re-evaluate web page listings using positioning algorithms every 20 to 30 days, it is necessary to constantly update and re-register web pages to maintain top rankings. Maintenance fees start only after guarantee has been met. No monthly maintenance is required for directory listings for Open Directory and Yahoo.

Directory Registration

Registration with directories like Yahoo Web Sites, and Open Directory are reviewed by real live website reviewers (humans not spiders) and are subject to their personal and subjective evaluation. The difficulty with directories is that the reviewer can rewrite the submission or reject it entirely. If they rewrite the submission it can dramatically affect the exposure and number of hits you get forever. If they reject the submission it can only be resubmitted one more time with out an additional fee from them. (Except for Open Directory.
